Tubal obstruction occurs when the fallopian tubes are not able to let the egg and the sperm meet in order to undergo fertilization, making becoming pregnant through natural means impossible.
Commonly, tubal obstruction occurs due to infection such as pelvic inflammatory disease. Other causes include tubal ligation procedures, adhesions (scarring) due to previous surgery, endometriosis, appendicitis, bowel disease (crohnes disease) and other pelvic or abdominal infections.
