Dr. Roger Stronell

Dr. Roger Stronell obtained his Medical degree from McGill University in 1971, and became a Fellow of the
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a diplomate of the American Board of Radiology in 1975.

In the 1980s, he was a Consultant in Radiology at the University of Toronto, then went into private practice,
where he became interested in the use of telecommunications in Medicine. During this time, he began to explore
the use of ultrasound in the investigation and treatment of infertility. His interests in ultrasound and information
technology converged in the 1990's, when he became the first physician to monitor ultrasound examinations via
the desktop PC, coining the term "telesonography" in the process.

Over the past 15 years, Dr. Stronell has authored numerous scientific papers in the fields of gynecologic ultrasound
and health care information technology. In 1996 and 1997, he was awarded Smithsonian Medals in the category
of Healthcare. The software he helped design is now part of the Smithsonian's permanent collection entitled
"The Information Age", at the Museum of American History in Washington, DC. The cycle monitoring database
at ISIS Regional Fertility center is based upon this award-winning software.
