Fertility Preservation For Cancer Patients |

ISIS physicians are trained in counseling and treatment of patients who are seeking preservation of their fertility for the future prior to undergoing treatment for cancer. For female patients, this may be cancer of the uterus, ovaries, cervix and breast or others.
Other patients may be planning to undergo chemotherapy and/ or radiation for treatment of other conditions in which the health of their ovaries may be compromised afterward. Such patients may undergo various approaches to fertility preservation depending on urgency of their cancer treatment or the type of cancer they have.

Some patients may be able to undergo an IVF cycle prior to their cancer treatment and freeze embryos for use at a later time after their cancer treatment. These patients may be undergoing
removal of their ovaries as part of their cancer management and be in a situation where creation of embryos is possible before their surgery.
Other patients may not be in a situation where creation of embryos prior to their cancer treatmentis possible but where retrieval of eggs prior to their cancer treatment is. These patients may or may not undergo ovarian stimulation prior to retrieval of their eggs but will choose to freeze their eggs. Egg freezing is still considered experimental due to low pregnancy rates afterwards but for some patients, this approach would provide the possibility for pregnancy in the future when otherwise there would not be such an opportunity. Patients who are seeking information or treatment prior to cancer treatment will be seen on an urgent basis at ISIS as their condition and treatment plan for cancer dictates.
