Some couples are not able to use their own eggs for the use of IVF. This is most often in the case of diminished ovarian reserve (aging eggs), prior multiple failed IVF attempts or poor ovulation induction stimulations or where there is a genetic condition that may be passed on to the children through the maternal side. In Canada, it is only possible to use another woman's eggs in a situation where there is no financial gain for either party. This commonly leads to the donation of eggs from a known source (an informed friend or relative) . The process is very similar to the IVF process except that the embryos that are created are then placed back into the uterus of the recipient woman rather than the donor woman. |
